Chuan Leekpai led the Democrat Party's northern campaign to support Ta Narakorn, the candidate for Chiang Mai Constituency 1, emphasizing the banner of 'clean politics.' He shared a memorable moment comforting a heartbroken young man and invited him to join the canvassing together.
On 19 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Chuan Leekpai, former party leader and party-list candidate for the Democrat Party, traveled to northern provinces to campaign for the party's constituency candidates, starting in Chiang Mai, Lampang, and Tak. He emphasized the party's key policy of practicing clean politics. The atmosphere in Chiang Mai was lively as Chuan joined a parade with campaign vehicles touring around the city to introduce Narakorn Tiyan, Democrat Party candidate for Chiang Mai Constituency 1, number 7. He gave brief speeches at various points and went door-to-door to introduce the party's candidates.

Chuan said that having served as an MP for 17 terms, he has never engaged in vote-buying even once. He urged people to be aware that anyone who buys votes is starting a political business. When politicians invest money to buy votes, eventually they must recover their investment through corruption in government projects once they gain power to manage the country. While the Democrat Party may not be the only one to speak about integrity, it is the party that has most concretely demonstrated that it can lead the country to prosperity without corruption or self-enrichment.
While campaigning, Chuan met a young tourist in Chiang Mai who was there to heal from a broken heart. He kindly advised the young man to let go and join the campaign efforts together, which brought smiles to the tourist and nearby onlookers.
Ta Narakorn stresses: accept money if offered but vote for the Democrat Party.
Narokorn said in the local Northern Thai dialect, using the campaign slogan: “You can take the money, but vote Democrat.” This means that while receiving money as a gesture is acceptable, people should not vote for corrupt candidates. Instead, they should support the Democrat Party, whose members sincerely work to develop and resolve Chiang Mai's problems.

Chuan's team then traveled by van to Lampang to support Amolaya Jentawanich, Democrat Party candidate for Lampang Constituency 1, number 7, seeking votes from Lampang residents. They conducted a campaign parade and spoke about the party’s policies focusing on clean politics—rejecting 'gray capital,' fighting corruption, reducing living costs, guaranteeing agricultural product incomes, and free education through bachelor's degree. This took place in front of the Aomsin fresh market. The afternoon campaign ended in Tak province supporting Warit Meechaiyo, Democrat Party candidate for Tak Constituency 1, number 8, highlighting policies to revive the entire economy and increase Thailand's GDP growth to 5%, all under good governance led by Abhisit Vejjajiva.
