All remaining two black swans belonging to Chiang Mai Provincial Administration have now been captured after they flew away in panic from Nong Kiew Reservoir due to the sound of fireworks, while the white swans have started molting, signaling they are about to lay eggs.

On 2 Dec 2025 GMT+7, officials from Chiang Mai Provincial Administration and Chiang Mai Night Safari jointly used a boat to patrol a large pond near a housing estate in San Kamphaeng district, Chiang Mai, to catch two black swans that had flown away from Nong Kiew Reservoir after being startled by fireworks. Residents reported seeing them sheltering in this pond. Officials used a fishing net, commonly used by locals, to catch both swans.

Previously, nets were used to catch black swans that had flown off in different directions to swim in the irrigation canal near Chiang Mai Phu Kham intersection in Chiang Mai city. Currently, the three black swans caught earlier are being temporarily cared for at Chiang Mai Night Safari to prevent them from being disturbed by fireworks again.

At Nong Kiew Reservoir, locals and tourists who heard the news that all black swans were caught came to admire the six adorable white swans and five black swans still swimming in the reservoir. Mr. Kanitsorn Gigling, the caretaker, brought fresh vegetables and bread to feed them in the evening.

When he called, all 11 swans—both black and white—quickly swam over, knowing they would be fed. This allowed tourists to closely watch and photograph the swans and rejoice at the return of all the black swans, even though they have not yet been brought here.

Additionally, Mr. Kanitsorn, the swan caretaker, has collected a large number of naturally shed white swan feathers, indicating that the white swans are near their breeding season and soon to lay eggs.
