Kanwee Leads Palwat Party Campaign at Su-ngai Kolok Market, Highlights Peace as Key to Reviving Southern Border Economy

Kanwee led the Palwat Party team campaigning for parliamentary candidates at the Su-ngai Kolok municipal fresh market, pointing out that peace is the key to reviving the southern border economy. They also stopped to encourage a gas station damaged by a militant bombing attack.

At 09:30 on 19 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Kanwee Suebsang, leader of the Palwat Party, along with Apisit Laisatru-klai, the party's Strategy and Policy Chair, the party-list parliamentary candidates, and Usman Dao, candidate for Narathiwat Constituency 2, number 8, visited the Su-ngai Kolok municipal fresh market in Narathiwat province. They met merchants and citizens to listen to issues, especially regarding trade with neighboring countries, as the Su-ngai Kolok municipal market is the largest trade market with neighboring nations.

During the campaign walk, the team received a warm welcome from many locals who engaged in conversation and requested photos. They expressed a desire for change, not wanting to face the same recurring problems. One vendor noted that the current economic condition in Su-ngai Kolok is worse than before, with almost no Malaysian tourists visiting, severely impacting trade.

Kanwee stated that the most evident problem in the southern border area is unrest. Without resolving this situation, economic growth or tourism development is unlikely, as tourists, particularly Malaysians, remain concerned about safety. Promoting the economy or tourism without addressing peace will be difficult. The first step is to 'undo the first button'—a metaphor for solving the longstanding 22-year conflict. The Palwat Party pledges to address all aspects of the southern border issues to improve the situation. Once peace is achieved, economic activity and public participation will follow, leading to sustainable development.

Meanwhile, Usman Dao, candidate for Narathiwat Constituency 2, number 8, spoke with merchants and shoppers, summarizing that he decided to run to address and change the problems in the southern border, especially in Constituency 2, a key economic area of the province. He emphasized that the Palwat Party holds a clear position on resolving peace issues and believes this foundation will improve the local economy. For those wanting change from the younger generation and to avoid repeating past problems, he urged voters to choose the pink ballot, number 7, for party-list candidates, and the green ballot for constituency candidate Usman Dao, number 8.

Later, Kanwee, along with the Palwat Party team, took the opportunity to visit the PTT Arunrung Oil Company Limited fuel station in Village 3, Pase-mas Subdistrict. This station was one of five PTT stations damaged by a militant bombing on 11 Jan. They met with Thanongsak Denratsamet and Thansinee Apibalthanakit, the gas station owners, offering encouragement regarding the incident and expressing hope for improvements to prevent further economic impact. The owners reported that operators must recover quickly and repair the station to reopen soon, as employees depend on it. The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) is expediting financial relief. Operators are coordinating with PTT headquarters to request fuel credit during the renovation to ease financial burdens. The convenience store, 7-Eleven, plans to reopen shortly, while the fuel station repairs may take about two months.
