Dr. Ae Suchatvee emphasized that "Thai people must not die pointlessly" from the crane collapse incident. He condemned silence as shared guilt, urged society not to become desensitized, and reiterated that if he becomes Prime Minister, he will immediately stop deaths caused by various projects.
On 20 Jan 2025 GMT+7, Mr. Suchatvee Suwansawat, Prime Minister candidate and leader of the Thai Khao Mai Party, commented on the crane collapse fire on Rama 2 Road, calling it a shocking event that repeats in close succession. He stressed that daily crane collapse accidents must not continue and that "Thai people must not die pointlessly."
"Every time such incidents occur, we see the news but never accountability. No one is suspended, no serious investigations happen, and no one apologizes to the public. If those in power remain silent and society becomes desensitized, tragedies like this will become normal in Thailand," Suchatvee said.
Suchatvee emphasized his commitment to serve as Prime Minister to oversee public safety and stop deaths caused by negligence in construction projects. He said all these incidents stem from "deep-rooted corruption problems" and the absence of an "independent safety organization."
He further pointed out that the root cause is "buttoning the wrong button" from the start, such as ministerial appointments where ministers lack knowledge and competence, and unqualified people from powerful families or political financiers are chosen. This leads to corruption, capital recovery schemes, repeated losses, and ultimately, "making Thai people die pointlessly."
"I try to trace back to the first wrong button: ministerial positions in the Cabinet not filled by good, professional people but by powerful families, party financiers, and vote buyers. This breeds corruption. When funds dwindle and quality declines, structures collapse, killing Thai people. Another issue is that perpetrators don’t go to jail. The Office of the Auditor General building and others allow wrongdoers to escape punishment. They know they will get away, so they take risks and cut corners without fear of consequences. Also, Thailand is unusual because after collapses, investigations are assigned to related agencies—like the railway investigating its own accidents or the Department of Highways investigating the Rama 2 collapse—leading to cover-ups. So, the causes are twofold: unprofessional ministers from powerful groups leading to corruption, and a lack of fear of punishment for negligence. These combine to make deaths common and pointless in Thailand," Suchatvee explained.
However, Suchatvee stressed he truly wants every vote and reiterated that the Thai Khao Mai Party practices constructive politics aimed at solving national problems. Therefore, if people want to entrust him, they must vote for him and the Thai Khao Mai MPs at number 49, who are running nationwide. He urged voters to support Thai Khao Mai enough to have the power to build a better country.
