Prime Minister Orders Swift Payment of Aid to Disaster Victims at Thailand-Cambodia Border After Election Commission Approval

Prime Minister Anutin has ordered the swift disbursement of financial aid to disaster victims in seven provinces along the Thailand-Cambodia border to help residents quickly return to normal living conditions, following the Election Commission's approval of the support request.

On 20 January 2026 GMT+7, Siripong Angkasakulkiat, spokesman for the Office of the Prime Minister, announced that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered the urgent distribution of aid money to disaster victims along the Thailand-Cambodia border after the Election Commission (EC) approved the support request.

The spokesman said the Cabinet meeting on 23 December 2025 GMT+7 approved the Ministry of Interior's proposal for a budget framework to assist disaster victims. This includes an additional 2,335,640,000 baht from the 2026 fiscal year central budget reserve for emergencies or urgent cases, to support 467,128 households affected by acts of foreign armed forces. The payments will follow the 2025 criteria, conditions, and procedures for compensating victims of foreign armed forces' actions, to alleviate public hardship. This operation may proceed after receiving EC approval under Article 169 (3) of the 2017 Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand.

This aid aims to ensure that households confirmed by provincial authorities as initially affected by acts of foreign armed forces in seven provinces—Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin, Buriram, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat—receive preliminary relief to ease their hardship and help restore normal living conditions promptly.
