Abhisit convened an extraordinary general meeting of the Democrat Party to vote Satit Pitutecha as deputy party leader for mission. Amphon Pinasah contested for northeastern deputy leader. Party members see this as a strategic move, appointing "Deputy Tee" while awaiting talks with Anutin.
At 09:30 on 21 January 2026, the Democrat Party held its first extraordinary general meeting of the year, emphasizing a modern and transparent political image by using a fully online system. . Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, presided over the meeting, with Chaiwut Bannawat, party secretary-general, acting as meeting secretary. The meeting was held via Zoom to accommodate party members nationwide who were campaigning in various constituencies. The agenda was to elect party executive committee members to fill the vacant positions of deputy party leader for mission and northeastern deputy leader.
The voting process was conducted under strict and transparent rules through secret ballots using Google Forms, aligning with the party's Digital Transformation policy. Over 400 party members participated, both online and in person at party headquarters, exceeding the required quorum of at least 250 members as stated in the party's regulations.
Abhisit proposed the candidates for the two vacant positions: 1. Satit Pitutecha for deputy party leader for mission, and 2. Amphon Pinasah for northeastern deputy leader. No other candidates were nominated. Voting results showed Satit received 97% of the votes, and Amphon received 91.9%, securing their respective positions. The meeting lasted over an hour before concluding.
However, most party members noted that beyond filling the vacant deputy leader positions, this meeting also served to support Satit Pitutecha, a close ally of Abhisit who maintains good relations with Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, from their previous collaboration when Anutin was Minister of Public Health and Satit was Deputy Minister of Public Health.
