Although the arrested person shares his surname, he said he has never met them and believes the connection is politically motivated. He challenges critics and is ready to undergo investigative processes.
On 21 Jan 2026 GMT+7 at Ron Phibun Police Station in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Mr. Chaiyachana Dechadecho, Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party, spoke after reporting a complaint regarding a popular page that claimed a search would be conducted at the home of a deputy leader of the Blue Party, linking him to a drug arrest involving a suspect with the same surname. He confirmed he has no involvement with drugs or any illegal activities. Although the arrested individual shares his surname, he has no legal or factual connection or acquaintance with that person. He explained that his grandfather's original surname was Dan, and his mother’s surname was Lim; he is ethnically 100% Chinese despite his darker complexion. Later, his father requested permission from Police Colonel Yong Dechadecho to adopt the Dechadecho surname, which they have used since. He acknowledged that many people share the Dechadecho surname nationwide. Therefore, any criminal actions are personal, not collective. Linking the drug arrest to him for political discredit is an unconstructive tactic.
Regarding elections and competition, he said the focus should be on policies, achievements, and addressing the nation's crisis problems. He affirmed that if he were involved not only in drugs but in any illegal conduct, he would willingly submit to justice and investigations. Even if only suspected or linked, he is ready to take responsibility. The Democrat Party maintains high standards on this matter. Therefore, he will pursue legal action against all pages and individuals who share or mention this damaging information, which misleads the public and society. As an innocent person, he reserves the right to file complaints under the Computer Crime Act as an initial step.
