Phumtham Relieved After Constitutional Court Clears Him of Interfering in Senate Election Case, Thanks Court for Support

Phumtham expressed confidence in his innocence, feeling glad and thankful to the Constitutional Court for encouraging those who work diligently after being cleared of allegations of interfering in the Senate election rigging case. He declined to comment on whether this was a political game, stating that listening to the full court ruling will make the facts clear.

At 17:25 on 21 January 2026 at Sakon Nakhon Airport, Mr. Phumtham Vejjajai, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, gave an interview after the Constitutional Court read its ruling, stating that Mr. Phumtham and Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong, former Minister of Justice, did not abuse their power to interfere in the Senate election rigging case. He said he was glad and must thank the Constitutional Court for encouraging those who work diligently. In this case, they acted according to their duties following the complaints, aiming to make the facts clear. They followed the legal process and the procedures of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI).

Phumtham further said that since being charged, he has been uncertain and uneasy about how the charges were brought while he was simply doing what was right. This case involved public opinion, and they only sought to clarify the issue because it related to the legislative institution. They did not want any impact or problems to arise for the legislature.

. When asked if he considered this a political game, Phumtham said he preferred not to discuss it now. It is an election period, but he believes everyone has seen and heard the full Constitutional Court ruling, which will make the facts clear. He added that if one reads the entire Constitutional Court judgment, the story will be understood. Today, he came to Bueng Kan Province instead of attending the court ruling in person because he is confident in his innocence and believes it is better to be with the people.
