Prime Minister Condemns Nationality Bribery Scandal, Orders Double Punishment for Officials Violating Laws, Affirms Clear Policy: If Found, Punished

Anutin condemned officials who break laws, saying they must receive double punishment and cannot claim ignorance of the law. He emphasized the clear policy of 'Naming the Offender, Holding Accountable'—anyone found guilty will face consequences.

On 22 January 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, spoke about the "Dispel Chiang Dao Fog" operation after the Department of Provincial Administration arrested a district chief officer and five other officials for illegally granting Thai nationality to foreigners. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the stance of 'Naming the Offender, Holding Accountable' and the policy 'Promises Made, Promises Kept.' District chief officers cannot claim ignorance of the law; committing violations while in a position of approval authority is a deliberate misconduct and should be punished twice as severely as ordinary offenders.

When asked about confidence in eradicating the nationality bribery problem if re-elected, Anutin admitted he could not guarantee it would be eliminated 100%, but pledged to do everything to obstruct corrupt individuals and apply strict measures so that anyone who violates the law will be punished without exception, similar to the successes in combating drugs and cybercrime over the past four months.
