Election Commission Summons Prachachon Party Over Four Key Policies Probes Campaign Budgets of 51 Parties

The Election Commission is accelerating its investigation into the campaign budgets of 51 parties, setting a deadline to conclude by 4 February. The Prachachon and Prachakorn Thai parties have been summoned for additional clarification.

On 22 January 2026, Mr. Sa-wang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC), reported progress in reviewing campaign policies requiring budget expenditures under Section 57 of the Political Parties Act. Out of 60 parties submitting candidates, 51 are subject to strict scrutiny, while 9 parties are exempt as they have no spending policies.

The EC resolved to urgently request five parties to provide additional explanations and documents: Prachachon must clarify key policies such as increased elderly allowances, mega projects to enhance quality of life, the SME co-payment scheme, and receipt lottery; Prachakorn Thai regarding the 5,000 baht monthly elderly welfare; Prachatai on the 3,000 baht elderly compensation policy; Thai Tham's 4,000 baht pension proposal; and Prachakorn Asa Chat's policy for free education up to a bachelor's degree (one graduate per village).

The EC Secretary-General stressed the commission must complete its review within the set timeframe, planning to present findings to the full EC meeting on 30 January. The remaining 28 parties will be reviewed by 3–4 February to ensure voters receive information on the value and risks of policies before the 8 February election.
