"Teng Natthapong" said the clip is from the past after the Lamphun PAO chief was exposed for abusing his wife. He questioned why evidence, long in hand, is only now being revealed during the campaign, and confirmed there is an internal party process to investigate.
On 23 Jan 2026, Mr. Natthapong Ruangpanyawut, party leader and prime minister candidate of the People’s Party, spoke about the released clip of Mr. Weeradej Phupisit, Lamphun Provincial Administrative Organization chief, abusing his wife. He said it is an incident from the distant past, and Mr. Weeradej has already posted a clarification. He encouraged people to review that direct statement.
When asked if he saw it as an attempt to sabotage the party since the clip was released during the campaign trail, Mr. Natthapong said the person who released the evidence did so based on a clip that has existed for a long time.
"We do not use that incident as an excuse to deny what happened. Mayor Heng himself has admitted to what occurred. As for how it becomes a political issue, I ask everyone to consider why evidence long in hand is only now being revealed at this time," Mr. Natthapong said.
Regarding whether a committee should be formed to investigate for transparency, Mr. Natthapong said the party’s internal procedures are already in place. Before coming here, he had inquired with Mr. Sarayut Jai-Lak, the People’s Party secretary-general, who confirmed that the party is conducting proceedings according to its regulations.
