Thai Embassy in Paris Extends Deadline for Election Document Submission to 2 Feb 2026 Due to French Postal Issues

The Royal Thai Embassy in Paris announced an extension for submitting election and referendum documents back to the embassy, moving the deadline from 30 Jan 2026 to 2 Feb 2026 due to issues with the French postal system, which has caused many people to not receive their documents yet.

On 24 Jan 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Paris, France, issued a notice extending the deadline for submitting election ballots and referendum documents after Thai citizens eligible to vote from abroad living in France complained they had not yet received these documents.

The embassy announced it had learned that a majority of citizens had still not received their election and/or referendum documents, causing significant concern. The embassy contacted the French postal service (La Poste) to follow up, learning that some documents had not been dispatched due to a central data system error (une erreur informatique), an internal technical fault within La Poste. They have now been informed that La Poste has corrected the error and expedited sending the documents.

Recognizing the importance of every overseas Thai citizen's vote, the embassy declared it would extend the document submission deadline from 30 January 2026 to 2 February 2026. Upon receiving the documents, voters are urged to complete and return them immediately. The embassy has already paid for the fastest postage (Enveloppe T Premium).

Those residing in Paris or nearby areas may also return their election documents in person at the embassy located at 8 rue de Greuze, 75016 Paris, including outside office hours and on weekends. For questions or further information, contact consular.par@mfa.go.th or call 01 56 26 50 50 ext. 126.

Reporters noted that this issue arose after many Thai residents in France commented under a post in the 'Ban Sapai France' Facebook group, which conducted a poll asking if members had received their election ballots; the unanimous response was that they had not.

Additionally, some Thai citizens in France commented under the embassy's Facebook post stating they had not received their documents either. The embassy's admin responded, “Documents were sent out starting 19 January, and some have already been returned. Once you receive your documents, please send them back to the embassy as soon as possible.”
