TSU Poll from Thaksin University Reveals Survey Results Showing Peoples Party Leading in Southern Thailand and Teng Favored as Prime Minister

TSU Poll from Thaksin University revealed a survey of citizens in 14 southern provinces, showing the People's Party holds the greatest support among southern voters. Meanwhile, "Teng Nattapong" leads as the top choice for prime minister, followed by "Abhisit" and "General Prayut."

On 27 Jan 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that TSU Poll from Thaksin University released survey results of public opinion in 14 southern provinces, based on a sample of 1,660 people surveyed from 14 Dec 2025 to 17 Jan 2026. The survey focused on "Which party do southern people want to vote for in the 2026 House of Representatives election?"

The findings showed that the majority of respondents support the People's Party with over 40%, followed by the Democrat Party at 22%, Bhumjaithai Party at 15%, Palang Pracharath Party at 5%, and Pheu Thai Party at 5%.

Regarding the question "Who do southern people want as prime minister?" Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut received the most support at 30%, followed by Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva at 20%, General Prayut Chan-o-cha at 16%, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul at 15%, and Mrs. Supachai Suthamphan at 5%.

TSU Poll stated that the majority of respondents are young people, with Generation Z comprising as much as 55%. Combined with Generation Y, those at early working age make up over 80%, reflecting a key trend that "the political direction in the South is shifting from traditional bases toward younger generations' politics."

Although the People's Party leads as number one, traditional parties like the Democrat Party still maintain a strong support base. This reflects that the South remains a fiercely competitive political arena with increasingly diverse viewpoints, especially when considering the list of preferred prime minister candidates, which includes both new and established politicians among the top ranks.

TSU Poll pointed out that these survey results should be interpreted as a "political trend," particularly highlighting the strong role of young people as key agents of political change in southern Thailand for the 2026 election.
