The Democrat Party launched the “Electric Train Comes to You” campaign, promoting combined tickets for buses and electric trains that reduce travel costs by 5-30 baht per trip. Abhisit rode the train campaigning in Soi Lalai Sap and met Khun Ying Kanlaya from the Thai Khao Mai Party, exchanging warm wishes.
At 12:00 p.m. on 27 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Abhisit Vejjajiva, party leader and Democrat Party prime ministerial candidate, arrived at Victory Monument to announce the "Electric Train Comes to You" policy aimed at reducing electric train fares.
Mr. Korn stated the party’s policy is to reduce travel costs using combined bus-train tickets ranging from 5 to 30 baht, based on citizens’ incomes. The government would subsidize 9 billion baht annually. Revenue would come from leasing commercial spaces on the Green Line, which will revert to the state in 2029. Today, Abhisit’s team traveled by BTS from Victory Monument to Sala Daeng. According to the party’s app, the fare drops from 35 baht to 15 baht. If the Democrat Party forms government, they will push this to ease public expenses.
Then, Abhisit’s team took the BTS to campaign at Soi Lalai Sap in Silom. While on the train, a citizen asked to take a photo with him. Upon arriving at Sala Daeng Station, Abhisit and his team entered Silom Complex mall, where a young woman from Yasothon jumped to embrace Abhisit, drawing cheers from mall staff. While campaigning on Silom Road, a movie promotion invited people to express feelings about their “boss” by writing on and posting notes on a board. Sakolthee, the party’s deputy leader, wrote “Love Brother Mark” and posted it on the activity board.
Reporters noted that while campaigning at Soi Lalai Sap, Abhisit’s team encountered the campaign group of Khun Ying Kanlaya Sophonpanich, Thai Khao Mai’s prime ministerial candidate. Abhisit greeted her with a wai, and they exchanged greetings. Khun Ying Kanlaya said she stopped short of the end of the soi waiting for Abhisit. Abhisit replied he also did not go to the soi’s end, and both wished each other good luck.
Abhisit said he had only met Mr. Suchatvee Suwansawat, Thai Khao Mai’s party leader, during debate stages. Khun Ying Kanlaya expressed concern for Abhisit’s health, noting his voice was weakening. Afterwards, they parted ways to continue campaigning and meeting citizens in the soi, which drew interest from office workers, shoppers, and vendors who warmly requested photos with Abhisit.
