Notice for Not Voting in the 2026 Election and Referendum: Channels Available Until 15 Feb

Reminder: The channels for "Notifying Reasons for Not Voting in the 2026 Election - Notifying Reasons for Not Voting in the Referendum" can be done via application, website, or postal mail. The final day to notify is 15 Feb 2026.


On 28 Jan 2026, following the announcement by the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) the date for the general election of the House of Representatives was set for Sunday, 8 Feb 2026, from 08:00 to 17:00, which on that day also includes the referendum voting, on whether to “approve” or “disapprove” the proposed constitutional amendments. Meanwhile, the advance voting day was set for Sunday, 1 Feb 2026, from 08:00 to 17:00. Registered advance voters must vote on that day, but there will be no advance referendum voting.

Notification of Reasons for Not Voting in the 2026 Election

For voters who have valid reasons preventing them from voting, the law allows notification during two periods as follows:

  • 7 days before the election day (1–7 Feb 2026)
  • and 7 days after the election day (9–15 Feb 2026).

Channels for Notifying Reasons for Not Voting in the Election

  • Smart Vote application,
  • government application,
  • the Registration Office website (click here)
  • and by postal mail, sending a registered letter to the district or local registrar where the voter is registered.

Notification of Reasons for Not Voting in the Referendum

For the referendum voting, if voters cannot vote, they should also notify the reason. The timeframe is:

  • from the announcement of the voter list until before the referendum day (14 Jan – 7 Feb 2026)
  • or within 7 days after the referendum day (9–15 Feb 2026).
