Air Force Explains AT-6TH Aircraft Crash During Training Mission Two Pilots Dead, Commander Orders Investigation

The Air Force explained that an AT-6TH aircraft from Squadron 411, Wing 41, crashed during a training mission in Chiang Mai, resulting in the deaths of two pilots. The Air Force Commander has ordered an investigation and expressed deepest condolences to the self-sacrificing pilots and their families.


29 Jan 2026 GMT+7 Air Chief Marshal Jakkrith Thamvichai, Air Force Spokesperson, revealed that at 10:20 a.m. earlier today, an AT-6TH attack aircraft from Squadron 411, Wing 41, experienced an accident while conducting a combat search and rescue training mission. The incident occurred in Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai Province (bearing 210 degrees, 60 kilometers from Chiang Mai Airport), an Air Force training area. Two pilots died while performing their duties.

. The incident did not impact nearby residents or their property. Following the event, Air Chief Marshal Seksan Khanta, the Air Force Commander, ordered relevant units to secure the crash site immediately and assigned the Air Force Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee to conduct a thorough and careful investigation to determine the cause. This investigation will strictly follow aviation safety regulations and standards to reach accurate conclusions that can be used to improve and enhance aviation safety measures to their highest effectiveness.
