Anutin Assures No Continuous Gunfire at Border Situation Resolved and No Cause for Concern

The Prime Minister revealed that the unrest at the border has been resolved, confirming there was no continuous firing. He pointed out that frontline commanders have the right to negotiate but such incidents should not happen frequently, emphasizing that the Thai military is strong.

On 31 January 2026 at 13:00, Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister, commented on the case of Cambodian soldiers firing M79 grenades towards Thailand. He said he had received reports consistent with the military's public statement. The Army Chief of Staff reported this morning that there is nothing to worry about. The flashes of light at the border were caused by tripping over illumination flares placed along the patrol line. He then added, “As I said, there is plenty of space to walk, but they chose to walk right here.”

He confirmed that there was no continuous firing. Moreover, under the ceasefire agreement, if such incidents occur, commanders from both sides should find a joint resolution. Once agreed upon, the matter is considered settled, but such events should not happen often. The field-level personnel have already reached an agreement without needing to escalate it to higher levels.

When asked whether he was concerned about the incident, especially as it might relate to the Bhumjaithai Party's speeches about the border, the Prime Minister said he was not worried and that the two matters were unrelated. He concluded by stating that our military is strong.
