On 31 January 2026 at 13:00, Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister, commented on the case of Cambodian soldiers firing M79 grenades towards Thailand. He said he had received reports consistent with the military's public statement. The Army Chief of Staff reported this morning that there is nothing to worry about. The flashes of light at the border were caused by tripping over illumination flares placed along the patrol line. He then added, “As I said, there is plenty of space to walk, but they chose to walk right here.”
He confirmed that there was no continuous firing. Moreover, under the ceasefire agreement, if such incidents occur, commanders from both sides should find a joint resolution. Once agreed upon, the matter is considered settled, but such events should not happen often.
