At 07:00 on 2 February 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party and prime ministerial candidate, along with his team, visited Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, including Mr. Chaiwut Bannawat, party secretary-general; Mr. Satit Wongnongtoey; Mr. Juree Numkaew, deputy party leader; and Democrat candidates for Songkhla MPs—Mr. Saksit Khaothong for constituency 2 and constituency 9. They enjoyed morning tea at Hajisan, a well-known tea shop near Hat Yai Hospital.
Mr. Abhisit drank tea and ate fried chicken with sticky rice and roti while talking with local businesspeople, listening to feedback after the late 2025 floods in Hat Yai. The business sector expressed a desire for economic recovery and more promotion of tourism on the Gulf of Thailand side. Locals aware of the visit brought their children to take photos, and a poster of Mr. Abhisit in a suit from the 2001 Democrat Party campaign was brought for his autograph before he accompanied the children to school.
Then, Mr. Abhisit crossed the street to Hat Yai Hospital to encourage healthcare workers. Staff, nurses, doctors, and patients waiting for treatment raised their phones to take commemorative photos of him. Mr. Abhisit offered encouragement to the medical personnel who had faced the challenges of the major flooding. The healthcare workers said, “People in the south have always supported the Democrat Party.”
At 08:30, Mr. Abhisit’s group walked through Kim Yong Market where residents and vendors eagerly surrounded him for selfies, gave him roses, placed marigold garlands around his neck, and sang the southern folk song “Pak Tai Ban Rao,” adding color to the campaign and temporarily blocking the market pathway. Mr. Abhisit and Democrat Party leaders are scheduled to hold a major rally in front of Robinson Department Store, Hat Yai Municipality, Songkhla Province at 18:00 today.
