Abhisit emphasized that the era of gray capital politics is over and urged voters to choose new-generation MPs to build honest politics. He pointed out that people in the South are united and will not split their votes. He believes that in the final week, vote-buying will surge. He said it is acceptable to receive such offers but warned not to vote for those who buy votes.
At 10:00 a.m. on 2 February 2026, Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader and prime ministerial candidate of the Democrat Party, wearing a gray shirt with the message “Gray Shirt, Not Gray People,” and his team visited Ku Khut Waterbird Park in Sathing Phra District, Songkhla Province to campaign for Sitthiphat Saneam, Democrat Party candidate for Songkhla Constituency 4. In his speech, he said that Constituency 4 in Songkhla is a crucial test. Sitthiphat is competing against a candidate from another party who, a few weeks ago, was subject to a decision by the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) to send a case to court to seize assets derived from illegal business. Therefore, voters in this district will send a message to the entire country. Although the court has not yet issued a final verdict, the global ethical standard holds that once AMLO has referred the case to court and if the court orders asset seizure, the candidate must be disqualified as an MP. He asked whether the voters of Constituency 4 will still choose this candidate to enter parliament or select a new-generation representative to work for honest politics. Sitthiphat is a young man who started politics at age 27, like Abhisit. This reflects the party's need to develop new generations to replace the current ones, just as Chuan once brought Abhisit into the party in the past. The party has lasted 80 years by nurturing new generations to continue its legacy.
“Although polls show strong support for the Democrat Party in Songkhla, I know that when opponents campaign, they say that if the people of Songkhla love the Democrat Party, they can vote for the party list at number 27 but ask that the constituency MP be someone else. However, the people of the South are united and will not split their votes. I believe that in the final week, vote-buying will become intense. If you receive offers, do not vote for those candidates, and make it clear that one vote is not enough — if there are two votes, I will come back to campaign again. I want to emphasize that people should not vote for those who buy votes.” He added, “One thousand baht is not worth four years of your time — it averages to one baht per day — but corruption involves tens or hundreds of billions, and it prevents development and progress. The era of this kind of politics is over. I ask the people of the South to join together to drive out gray capital and vote-buyers from the region.”
“I am glad to meet the people of Songkhla again. In the past, we were trapped by corruption and dominated by gray capital controlling the country. They enjoyed themselves among politicians, exchanging favors, having secret deals, and not caring about the people. The area’s condition deteriorated, agricultural prices fell, and people suffered. The news rarely showed that these problems would be solved. Therefore, we must start with honest politics. If we become the leading party to form a government, we are ready to push for immediate action. If we have to join a coalition, we have conditions: no corruption, no policies that cause conflict, and no domination by external interests, and we will fight against gray capital.”
