Anutin Aims High, Confident of Winning 200 Seats, Seeks Top Spot with No Rival

Anutin aims to win 200 seats, confident in grade-A candidates, and says he follows his father's teaching to always be number one and never second. Plans to cooperate with the People's Party and will review the results after the election.

On 2 February 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, as leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, spoke about readiness and expectations for the upcoming general election on 8 February, stating the goal is to be the number one party. The party is confident and expects to win many seats.

Anutin said that his father taught him since childhood that in any competition, you must be number one, never number two, because second place is forgotten. If you cannot be number one across the board, you must at least be number one within your political faction.

When asked about rumors that Bhumjaithai might win up to 180 seats, Anutin laughed and said his estimate is higher, targeting more than 200 seats. The reason is the party is fielding candidates in over 300 constituencies, with 160 having previously won elections, about 70 more candidates who almost won, and they expect 10-15 party-list seats.

Asked about political alliances, Anutin gave a measured response, saying the People's Party is not considered an opponent. Although the People's Party leader has said he would not support Anutin as prime minister, he has never said they oppose Bhumjaithai. Whether they can form an alliance depends on 'options' and the post-election numbers.

Regarding coalition conditions, Anutin clearly stated he will reject gray or black zones, will not work with illegal or dishonest individuals confirmed by law, and will not go against the people's decision. On Sunday, 8 February, he will vote in Buriram, then observe conditions in Buriram, Surin, and possibly Sisaket provinces, which are key areas, before returning to Bangkok in the evening to await the vote count. It is expected that by 8:00 p.m., a clear picture of government formation will emerge.
