Election Commission Orders Investigation into Large Fund Withdrawals and Early Voting Errors

The Election Commission (EC) has not yet considered observations from the Political Party Policy Investigation Committee. It has ordered the investigative team to accelerate the inquiry into large fund withdrawals. Secretary Sarawong has instructed provincial EC offices to report errors in early voting, pointing out that candidates have suffered real damage and expects the matter will not be easily resolved.


At 16:30 on 2 February 2026, reporters reported that during the meeting, the Election Commission (EC), today, the EC Office summarized the problems that occurred during early voting, to inform the EC meeting, including solutions to prevent recurrence in the general election and the referendum on Sunday, 8 February 2026. Additionally, the EC Office reported to the EC about irregular fund withdrawals by a legal entity that may violate election laws, information received from the Bank of Thailand. The EC is currently investigating the cause and examining any connections between the withdrawals and candidates or political parties. The EC has emphasized the need to proceed promptly.

: The EC meeting has not yet reviewed observations from the committee examining political party campaign spending on advertisements by 51 parties. This will be considered at the EC meeting on 3 February.

However, this morning, Secretary Sarawong Boonmee sent a message via the EC Office's group chat to all staff, stating that today’s news reported errors and misconduct during voting, including not sealing some identification documents at polling stations, which accused the office and caused damage. He said the office itself suffered significant harm and that this issue will not be easily resolved. He instructed the relevant provinces that recognize these issues to prepare factual explanatory reports promptly, and requested the Public Relations Department to transcribe relevant cases for the Election Administration Division to monitor all issues and report back to the EC. .
