Pheu Thai Prepares to File Complaint with Election Commission over Kanchanaburi Clip Phanom and Provincial Council Member to Hold Press Conference on 5 Feb

Chusak revealed that the Pheu Thai Party is preparing to file a complaint with the Election Commission over a controversial audio clip from Kanchanaburi, suspected of violating election laws by misleading voters about popularity ratings. Meanwhile, Phanom and the provincial council member have scheduled a press conference for 5 February.

On 3 February in Ubon Ratchathani Province, Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Deputy Leader and legal representative of the Pheu Thai Party, commented on the allegations of vote-buying in Kanchanaburi and the leaked audio clip. He said they are well aware of the clip's content and have listened to it. Mr. Sakda Wichiansilp, a candidate for Kanchanaburi Constituency 5 from the Bhumjaithai Party, filed a police report denying that the voice was his and said he would take legal action against those involved. Mr. Chusak believes it would not be difficult to verify whether the voice is truly Sakda's, as he has known him for a long time. He also understands that reporters heard Sakda's interview and speech and that if 100 people were asked whether the voice was not Sakda's, probably none would say so.

Mr. Chusak added that after reviewing the clip, the overall view is that it somewhat violates election laws. Some statements, when examined carefully, are inappropriate, such as saying 'no to the red party.' Mr. Phanom Pho Kaeo, Pheu Thai candidate for Kanchanaburi Constituency 5, and the provincial council member featured in the clip have discussed the matter and feel it is very damaging, especially since it was said that voting for Phanom would mean supporting the opposition. He understands that Phanom and the council member are willing to hold a press conference at the Pheu Thai Party on the morning of 5 February to clarify the facts.

Mr. Chusak further stated that regarding the vote-buying clip and threats to villagers, he understands that Mr. Phanom Pho Kaeo will bring affected villagers with evidence to file a complaint with the provincial Election Commission on 4 February. Importantly, after the press conference, the Pheu Thai Party will compile and summarize the issue to file a complaint with the central Election Commission, alleging violations of election laws.

When asked whether the similarity of the voice to Mr. Sakda, who denies it but is also a local competitor, would have an impact, Mr. Chusak said that verifying whether the voice is indeed his is one matter, which he believes is not difficult. However, the statements in the clip are suspected of violating election laws, clearly harming certain parties. The law specifies that misleading voters about candidates' popularity is prohibited. As the Pheu Thai Party has suffered damage, it will take action on behalf of the party alongside Mr. Phanom, who has been authorized to proceed with filing the complaint for investigation by the Election Commission.
