Kangfu Wasawan Believes Cambodian Soldiers Intentionally Fired Grenades at Thai Military Base

The leader of the Thai Ruam Palang Party believes that Cambodian soldiers firing grenades at a Thai military base was not a disciplinary error but intentional. Regarding Thailand's protest over placing shipping containers, he insists it follows the 1:50,000 map.

On 5 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Wasawan Puangpornsri, known as Kangfu, leader of the Thai Ruam Palang Party, spoke about the 40mm grenade fired by Cambodian soldiers that landed at the Thai military base. He said it was a deliberate targeting of the base in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, where Thai soldiers are stationed and Cambodian forces also conduct surveillance. He believes it was intentional rather than a disciplinary mistake. The attack targeted the base where Thai soldiers were on duty, causing alarm among local residents. He added that Thailand must be aware of Cambodia’s tactics, especially as the firing occurred near election time, raising questions about underlying motives. He sees this as Cambodia's game, to which Thailand must respond. While understanding the need for patience and gentlemanly restraint, he stressed the need for proactive diplomacy, inviting foreign embassies to observe the area to verify that Cambodia fired first. He said the world should be informed rather than merely declaring it a disciplinary error and promising it won't happen again. This is the second disciplinary breach. He criticized government and military communications as inconsistent, potentially confusing local people. He is certain it was not a disciplinary mistake. Cambodia has not honored the ceasefire agreement, claiming to stop firing but secretly continuing. He emphasized that information must be communicated to the public promptly, not after two or three hours.

Regarding Cambodia's protest over Thailand placing shipping containers along the border, he said Thailand follows the 1:50,000 map within its sovereign territory. Thailand has never encroached on Cambodian land and does not desire to do so. He invited foreign embassies to visit the area to see for themselves, including locations near Pak Chong An Ma, under the casino, and the watershed ridge. These geographic points clearly show Cambodia lies further south, but Cambodia has moved to areas under the casino and up to Pak Chong An Ma, steps along the watershed ridge. Viewing the actual geography clarifies that Thailand has not encroached and is standing firm on the 1:50,000 map.

"If you want to negotiate about landmines, have you cleared them out? Your forces must withdraw completely, and your weapons must be removed before negotiations. If foreign diplomatic missions come to inspect, they will better see the reality on the ground. Cambodia can protest all they want. The area where the containers are placed belongs to us; it is a path made on our watershed ridge, which they have occupied for a long time. It concerns Thailand's dignity, rights, and sovereignty. Although the containers are temporary, they at least mark where the boundary and territory of Thailand lie," Mr. Wasawan said.
