Suriya Affirms Legitimacy of Aircraft Purchase, Complains of Political Attacks in Final Pre-election Stretch

Suriya Juangroongruangkit lamented being politically attacked during the final stretch before the election, which he believes aims to undermine public confidence. He affirmed that he has clearly disclosed to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) that he owns only 30 million baht worth of the aircraft, while over 832 million baht belongs to a group of relatives.

On 6 Feb 2026, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, prime ministerial candidate for the Pheu Thai Party, explained regarding the CSI LA page revealing information about a Thai politician minister, abbreviated as Big S., who purchased a Gulfstream G550 private jet from foreign businessman Benjamin Mauerberger, or Ben Smith, valued at about 800 million baht but declared to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) as only 30 million baht. He said that in 2024, he and his family discussed wanting a private jet for their multiple members. An acquaintance introduced them to Ben Smith, who had several planes for sale, leading to a transaction in early August 2024. The aircraft was valued at 862,191,500 baht, legally imported and with VAT paid to the Customs Department on 13 Sep 2024. It was used for duties during his tenure as Minister of Transport and last flown in early November 2025. Regarding disclosures to the NACC, he reported clearly owning 30 million baht worth of the plane, while the remaining over 832 million baht is owned by relatives, specifying each person's share.

When asked about allegations that the plane was used to transport political ammunition to target areas, Mr. Suriya said these are political attacks timed during the final pre-election period to destroy public confidence. He denied the allegations as untrue, urging the public to exercise critical judgment when receiving news and to verify information from reliable sources to avoid falling victim to misinformation from ill-intentioned parties.
