2026 Election: What Time, How to Mark 3 Ballots, and Do You Need to Bring Your Own Pen?

2026 Election: What are the 3 ballots? Voters must know that tomorrow they will receive 3 ballots to vote for constituency MPs, party list MPs, and for the referendum. This also clarifies what to prepare before entering the voting booth and whether you need to bring your own pen.

On 7 February 2026, the Election Commission urged eligible voters not to forget to exercise their right on Sunday, 8 February 2026, because each vote matters and can change the country. On that day, besides voting for constituency and party list MPs, voters must also enter the booth to cast their referendum vote.

How to vote in the 2026 election: What are the 3 ballots?

1. Constituency MP ballot (green ballot)

  • Purpose: To choose the individual you prefer as the MP representing your constituency.
  • Ballot features: Contains candidate numbers and boxes to mark (usually without candidate names or party logos).
  • How to mark: Place an X in the box of the candidate number you want; only one choice is allowed.

2. Party list MP ballot (pink ballot)

  • Purpose: To select the party you support, which determines the allocation of party list MPs for that party.
  • Ballot features: Clearly shows party numbers, party logos, and party names.
  • How to mark: Place an X in the box of the party you choose; only one party may be selected.

3. Referendum ballot (yellow ballot)

  • Purpose: To decide on allowing amendments to the new constitution.
  • Ballot features: Contains only 3 boxes with a question. The question reads: "Do you agree that there should be a new constitution?"
  • How to mark: Place an X in the box for agree, disagree, or no opinion; only one box may be marked.

Check the 2026 voter eligibility list

Voters must verify their eligibility before entering the booth by entering their 13-digit ID number via two methods:

1. Check eligibility to vote for MPs on the Department of Provincial Administration website by clickinghere.

2. Check eligibility to vote in the referendum on the Department of Provincial Administration website by clickinghere.

Identification required for voting

  • National ID card: valid whether expired or not.
  • Other government-issued documents: such as a driver's license, passport, or government official ID card; these must be valid (not expired) to be accepted.
  • Digital identification: can be shown via government apps like ThaID (digital ID card) or DLT QR LICENCE (digital driver's license).

Do you need to bring your own pen to vote?

Voters do not need to bring their own pen as blue ballpoint pens are provided in the voting booth for everyone. However, if you are concerned about hygiene or prefer to use your own pen, it must be a blue ballpoint pen only. Using pens with other ink colors (such as red or black) is prohibited. Gel pens should be avoided because their ink may smudge or bleed through, potentially invalidating the ballot.

What are the polling station opening and closing times?

Polling stations will be open for voting from 08:00 to 17:00. Voters are reminded not to tear their ballots, as this is illegal, and to only mark an X in the candidate or party box. Any other marks or symbols will invalidate the ballot.
