Lieutenant Colonel Thanathorn smiled and said it went as expected with more than 50 seats won, revealing surprise at securing Sakon Nakhon District 1. He mocked the Blue Party, saying he’s been waiting for their call but it hasn’t come yet, adding that the southern wave cannot be proven within 1-2 months.
On 8 Feb 2026 at 21:10, Lieutenant Colonel Thanathorn Prompha, Klateam Party’s prime ministerial candidate, together with Mrs. Narumol Phinyosinwat, party leader, and Air Commodore Anudit Nakornthap, party strategy chairman, held a press conference stating that excluding party-list seats, they have won nearly 60 constituency seats. In the North, only Phrae and Lamphun provinces remain to finalize vote counts. Regarding the case in Phayao where the Provincial Waterworks Authority allegedly took 14 ballots to vote themselves, seven for constituency MPs, these were marked for the Prachachon and Thai Sap Thawi parties.
When asked if the results met expectations, Lieutenant Colonel Thanathorn said he had confidently predicted winning more than 50 constituencies because they have been present in the areas continuously. Their party, ministers, and most candidates are incumbent MPs who have nearly 100% re-election, confirming their strong local support. Asked if anyone had contacted him to join the government, he replied, “No one has called yet; I’m still waiting for the Blue Party to call but no response so far. Let’s wait to finalize the numbers before I say anything.”
Lieutenant Colonel Thanathorn added that they cannot say much now as they are waiting on the final numbers. All parties expect to form the government. Asked if he wants to continue as Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, he said to wait until 80% of votes are counted because it’s too early now; speaking prematurely would be a political disadvantage. “The unexpected seat is Sakon Nakhon District 1. Looking at the map, the country mostly appears green, and in some districts where we did not run candidates, we had no expectations,” he said.
Asked about the southern region where there is talk that the Democrat Party is gaining ground, Lieutenant Colonel Thanathorn said the situation cannot be proven in just 1-2 months, but they have a presence there, which is important. In Bangkok, the contest is mainly between one camp and four to five others, resulting in a stalemate. In the Eastern region, competition is only in some provinces.
“Politics depends on how many MPs the government has. We expect to know all the results soon. Our party is checking each province. This morning, I jokingly marked ‘42 Long Live Klateam Party,’” said Lieutenant Colonel Thanathorn.
