Pheu Thai Party Accepts Peoples Verdict, Allows Top-Ranked Party to Form Government

Pheu Thai Party accepts the people's verdict and allows the number one party to form the government. It reveals that Yotsanan is in good spirits and stresses that regardless of the role, the party can perform to its full capability.

On 8 Feb 2026 GMT+7 at the Pheu Thai Party headquarters, Mr. Chulanun Amornwiwat, leader of the Pheu Thai Party and prime ministerial candidate, expressed gratitude to all citizens who exercised their right to vote to advance democracy, and thanked every vote given to Pheu Thai for encouraging the party to continue working for the people.

Regarding the election results, which are not yet finalized as votes are still being tallied, Pheu Thai remains committed to democracy and the parliamentary system. It sees it as the duty of the party with the highest vote count to form the government. Regardless of its role, Pheu Thai will perform its duties to the best of its ability.

When asked if the party has discussed whether it will be in opposition or government, Mr. Chulanun said that this is not a matter for their internal discussion. He stated the party respects the people's decision. Forming the government is the responsibility of the party with the highest votes to gather a parliamentary majority. Pheu Thai can perform fully regardless of its role.

He added that there have been no talks yet about being opposition or government; government formation is the duty of the top-ranked party to consolidate support. When asked about Mr. Yotsanan Wongsawat, Pheu Thai's prime ministerial candidate, and his political future, Mr. Chulanun said Yotsanan is currently in good spirits. The votes from the people keep them smiling and motivated to continue political work. Despite criticism, the party remains strong, and the support from the people will drive Pheu Thai to pursue its ideals.

When asked if they have assessed why the vote count was lower than expected, Mr. Chulanun replied that they accept the people's decision without further comment. Regarding cooperation with any party, the party can work for the people in any role. If joining the government, it depends on whether the leading party approaches them and on ideological and policy alignment. They have experience as opposition and will perform fully in any role assigned. Mr. Prasert added that assessing the results requires reviewing why outcomes are as they are, asking for some time since vote counting is not yet complete.

However, at this Pheu Thai press conference, Mr. Yotsanan Wongsawat, the party's prime ministerial candidate, was not present.
