Phetchabun: Bhumjaithais Landslide Victory Sweeps All MPs in Province Upsets Four-Time Champion in District 2

Summary of the 2026 election results in Phetchabun Province: unofficial scores show a blue landslide with Bhumjaithai Party sweeping all parliamentary seats across the province. In District 2, a major upset unseats a four-time incumbent champion.

On 9 Feb 2026 GMT+7, reporters covered the election results for all six parliamentary districts in Phetchabun. Unofficially, candidates from the Bhumjaithai Party won all seats. The spotlight was on District 2, where fierce neck-and-neck competition occurred between Mr. Jakrat Phuachuay, former four-time incumbent from the Kla Tham Party and local political heavyweight, and Mr. Yupharat Buain from Bhumjaithai, who toppled the long-standing incumbent of over 20 years.

Unofficially, Mr. Yupharat Buain of Bhumjaithai received 30,244 votes, narrowly defeating Mr. Jakrat Phuachuay of Kla Tham Party who got 28,571 votes—a margin of only 1,727 votes. In the other five districts, Bhumjaithai candidates won decisively: District 1 Ms. Pimpon Pornpratiphan; District 2 Mr. Yupharat Buain; District 3 Mr. Boonchai Kittitharasap; District 4 Mr. Worachot Sukonthakorn; District 5 Ms. Wanphen Promphat; and District 6 Mr. Akar Thongjaisod. Additionally, Mr. Santi Promphat secured a party-list MP position, raising Phetchabun’s total MPs to seven. Mr. Santi, a former minister of several departments, is expected to be appointed a minister immediately.

Mr. Akarin Phuinoi, chairman of the Bhumjaithai election center in District 2 and key strategist behind the surprising victory over the long-time incumbent, spoke to Thairath reporters: “ District 2 in Phetchabun faces many complex problems awaiting multi-dimensional solutions, all being major issues for local residents. Especially in Lom Sak district, recurrent severe flooding causes widespread damage, and the community is eager for comprehensive change to resolve this. Agricultural product prices are also a problem for farmers, who rely on farming as their main livelihood but struggle with low selling prices. Lom Sak is the largest vegetable trading market in lower northern Thailand. Moreover, the use of farmland by most local farmers remains unresolved. Lom Sak could be considered the country’s kitchen.”

Both the candidate and I share a commitment and common goal to see change. After selecting a candidate willing to tackle these issues and sharing aligned views only two months before the election, I worked hard to build understanding among the people of Lom Sak and District 2. This effort quickly gained strong support, leading to today’s victory. It marks a new chapter, ready to listen to problems and work towards solutions in every dimension.”

Reporters noted that District 2 was the only seat in Phetchabun where the incumbent was unseated. The political base of Mr. Jakrat Phuachuay, the four-time former champion who held the seat for over 20 years, includes his elder brother Mr. Kitti Phuachuay, mayor of Lom Sak municipality for more than 20 years, acting as strategist and core supporter ensuring repeated election victories. Their mother, Mrs. Thitinan Phuachuay, previously served as Lom Sak mayor before passing the role to her eldest son, now a provincial councilor. Other family members, including a sister-in-law and youngest brother, have also held provincial councilor positions. This election represents a significant political shift in Phetchabun, toppling a long-standing political giant with a dramatic upset.
