Summary of the latest 2026 election results In Chiang Mai, the "Pheu Thai" party was wiped out, failing to retain any seats, while the "Pracha Chart Party" swept 6 city constituencies. The "Kla Tham" party emerged as a dark horse, capturing 4 border area seats.
On 9 Feb 2026 GMT+7, reporters noted that throughout the previous night, election officials from 161 polling stations in Chiang Mai's District 1 returned ballot boxes, election equipment, and official vote tallies to the Mueang Chiang Mai District Office smoothly. Similarly, across all 10 constituencies, officials worked diligently to verify ballot counts against voter turnout and results. Only about 6% of the 2,789 polling stations, mainly in remote areas, remain to be counted.
However, the unofficial vote counts across all 10 constituencies revealed a significant political shift: the Pheu Thai Party failed to hold any seats in Chiang Mai, previously a key stronghold.
Although the Pracha Chart Party lost one seat compared to the previous 7, it still holds a majority in urban and surrounding districts, including Constituencies 1 (Phetcharat Mai Chomphu), 2 (Karanik Chantada), 3 (Natthaphon Towijakchaiyagul), 4 (Phutita Chayanun), and 8 (Phattharaphong Leelaphat), retaining their championship for a second term. In Constituency 5, Somchit Kanthaya of the Pracha Chart Party successfully reclaimed his seat.
The Kla Tham Party has become a new political force, winning 4 seats. In Constituencies 6 and 7, Supanan Panyathip and Karun Kujaroenchaiyagul took over areas formerly held by the Pracha Chart Party.
Constituency 9 was won by Nares Thamrongthipyakun, deputy leader of Kla Tham, while Constituency 10 went to Naraphon Tantimontri, a former Palang Pracharath MP who recently joined Kla Tham, maintaining a strong voter base.
Voter turnout this election was 949,962, or 70.46% of the 1,348,261 registered voters, with 43,911 spoiled ballots recorded.
In the referendum, Chiang Mai residents showed high engagement, with 978,769 voters participating (72.59%). Over 72% supported drafting a new constitution to drive political reform aligned with local public aspirations.
Overall, the election results clearly reflect shifting political preferences by geography: urban voters favor the Pracha Chart Party, while the Kla Tham Party has successfully gained support in border areas.
