Following the incident where a large number of people gathered at the field in front of Mueang District Office, Chonburi Province, opposite the gymnasium in Bang Plasoi Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chonburi Province, from around 4:00 p.m., to demand that the Chonburi Election Commission investigate the ballot boxes used in District 1 after inquiries revealed that the boxes were reportedly stored in a secured room at the Mueang Chonburi District Office with CCTV surveillance.
However, upon inspection, it was found that all the ballot boxes were actually at the district badminton court, lacking the reported security, and were about to be moved to the Election Commission office without cable ties as required by commission regulations. When asked, officials said the cable ties had run out. The crowd then surrounded the vehicle and refused to allow the boxes to be moved, demanding the Election Commission clarify the facts, transparency, and accuracy of the vote count after several complaints were filed.
Most recently, at 1:35 a.m. on 10 February 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chanin Noilek, Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission, arrived at the scene and stated, "I stand for correctness and am on your side, but everything must follow the law. The decision to reopen ballot boxes for recounting must come from the Election Commission because I do not have the authority to open the boxes myself."
At this time, reopening the ballot boxes for a new count is not possible; we must wait for the full Election Commission's meeting at 10 a.m. Currently, the only action is to collect evidence to submit to the seven-member full commission for their decision.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the area remains crowded with protesters camped out demanding a recount. Further developments will be reported as they occur.
