Students Continue to Wait for Election Commission Meeting Outcome on Recount for Maha Sarakham District 1

Students continue to camp out, waiting for the Election Commission's meeting results to find a solution regarding the vote count in "Maha Sarakham District 1" after citizens submitted a request for a recount. Meanwhile, the coordination center inside the university remains locked to prevent unrelated individuals from entering the premises.

On 10 Feb 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that following an incident where over 200 citizens and students gathered at the election coordination center and referendum polling station for Election District 1 in Maha Sarakham Province inside Maha Sarakham Rajabhat University to pressure for a new vote count after raising several concerns, the protesters demanded clear explanations from officials and insisted they would not end the protest until a fair conclusion was reached. The event occurred on the evening of 9 Feb.

During the protest, police facilitated order and maintained peace to prevent violence. Meanwhile, Mr. Settha Nernsuawan, the District Chief of Mueang Maha Sarakham and Chair of the District 1 Election Commission, along with Lieutenant Colonel Traisorn Phasuk, Director of the Maha Sarakham Provincial Election Commission Office, explained to protesters that any request for a recount must be submitted as a written petition clearly stating reasons and concerns before being forwarded to the Provincial Election Commission for further consideration according to procedures.

A representative of the protesters revealed that the student group remains concerned about the conduct of officials, similar to incidents in Chonburi Province and other provinces. They have therefore called on the Election Commission to clarify the facts and requested a recount to ensure transparency and fairness for voters.

Most recently, on the morning of 10 Feb 2026 GMT+7, about 10 students gathered in a group awaiting a response from the central Election Commission meeting scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in Bangkok regarding the recount request.

Meanwhile, at the Election Commission's District 1 coordination center inside Maha Sarakham Rajabhat University, officials have locked the doors to prevent unrelated individuals from entering the office.
