Pheu Thai Calls on Election Commission to Ensure Transparent Election Amid Suspicions

Julpan called on the Election Commission to ensure the election is transparent after detecting suspicions involving money power and state authority interfering to pressure civil servants and local officials. He urged the public to help monitor and report any corruption to the Pheu Thai Party’s page.

On 10 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Julpan Amornwiwat, leader of the Pheu Thai Party, together with Mr. Poomtham Vechayachai, held a joint press conference regarding the party’s stance on the lack of transparency in election management.

Mr. Julpan stated that Pheu Thai has received complaints from citizens, election observers, and the party’s candidates in many areas concerning election irregularities and dishonesty. He expressed concern about these abnormalities and their impact on public confidence in democracy. The party is currently gathering facts and thoroughly verifying information in every district, affirming that all actions are based on evidence and legal data. Preliminary observations reveal three concrete concerns:

There are suspicions of the use of money power in several areas, with reports of numerous irregular financial activities. First, the party calls on the Election Commission to clarify, especially regarding the Bank of Thailand’s prior statement about unusual cash withdrawals during the election period. After the Election Commission’s investigation, what were the findings? Were any actions in violation of election laws?

Many citizen complaints and detections have been made. The party urges the Election Commission to expedite follow-ups on cases, including arrests of suspects with evidence such as cash and voter lists in various areas, which have already been legally processed. The party requests the Election Commission to accelerate and complete actions according to the law.

Regarding the abuse of state power, there have been many complaints about interference and pressure in some areas’ elections, involving village heads, local leaders, and the use of military, police, or administrative officials. Pheu Thai calls for a straightforward investigation into these matters.

Concerning the Election Commission’s management, this issue has sparked widespread debate in society. Problems include non-transparent vote counting, discrepancies in some areas where total votes exceed the number of voters, over 50 erroneous ballot tears, irregularities in certain districts where vote recounts flipped results by tens of thousands of votes from losing to winning, and discretionary decisions by election officials regarding ballots and spoiled votes. These three issues undermine public confidence in the election and democracy.

Mr. Julpan said Pheu Thai emphasizes that their goal is fairness, not conflict. He called on the Election Commission to promptly and transparently investigate all facts, disclose information publicly, and have processes that respond to the people's demands. Many citizens have called for vote recounts. Pheu Thai believes this is feasible and would help ease tensions in disputed areas. If fairness is ensured, recounting will not affect election results. Any doubts should be addressed by acceding to public requests to increase confidence.

The party confirms it will conduct constructive investigations, defending the rights and votes of every citizen. A task force has been appointed to collect reports of election fraud against Pheu Thai since before the election. Hundreds of complaints have been received and will be rigorously pursued. Anyone with concerns can contact Pheu Thai’s website and submit information so the party can continue pursuing transparency according to legal procedures.

Regarding progress on Pheu Thai being invited to join a coalition government with Bhumjaithai, Mr. Julpan affirmed no contact has been made. As the leading party, it is their duty to form a government. Currently, they are awaiting clarity on the Election Commission’s final numbers, which remain uncertain, so no actions can be taken yet.

Addressing supporters’ questions about joining a coalition, Mr. Poomtham firmly stated now is not the time to discuss coalition partnerships and that the party must respect the public’s voice. Pheu Thai’s current focus is to verify whether the election was conducted fairly and transparently. He asked the media and supporters not to speculate on this matter yet.
