Anutin said the new Cabinet will begin forming the government after the Election Commission certifies the 2026 election results. He said he cannot disclose what kind of government formation formula will be used. Today, he rode a parade vehicle to thank all the voters in Prachinburi who elected Bhumjaithai Party MPs, celebrating throughout the province.
10 Feb 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, presided over the Cabinet meeting at the Government House. During the meeting, Mr. Anutin congratulated all ministers who earned the people's trust through both constituency and party-list elections. Although unofficial results are known, the process is still ongoing under the legal framework of the Election Commission (EC).
As the leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, which has been entrusted with the chance to lead government formation, he said they will wait for the EC to officially certify the election results before starting the new government formation process, ensuring compliance with the law and the people's intent. The current Cabinet will continue to perform its duties fully until the new Cabinet takes office. He also instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defense to study ways to cancel the 2001 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU 2544), prioritizing the nation's best interests above all else.
Later, at 11:25 a.m., Mr. Anutin was interviewed regarding rumors of talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, who is also the chairman of Kla Tham advisors, about government formation, and rumors of an alliance with the Pheu Thai Party. He said there is nothing concrete yet. Any moves must wait until the Election Commission officially certifies the election results. For now, they can only prepare and keep considering options.
When asked if this needs to be done quickly because people are waiting for government approvals, Mr. Anutin said, "The EC has a legal framework to certify results within no more than 60 days, right? It has only been two days, so let's give the EC time to work." Reporters pressed whether work needs to proceed simultaneously, and Mr. Anutin replied that many thought processes are already ongoing internally.
When asked about the government formation formulas he is considering, Mr. Anutin said, "I won’t say. I can’t say." When pressed on whether he prefers a slim majority or a stable majority, he said the new government must be as stable as possible. When asked whether he prefers forming the government with more than 300 seats or just 290, Mr. Anutin smiled but did not answer. Regarding whether he will visit Prachinburi province this evening, he said he will ride a parade vehicle to thank all voters who chose Bhumjaithai Party MPs across the entire province.
