No Recount of Election Votes in Sisakets Districts 6 and 7, Election Commission Denies

Kornchit Charoen-in clarified that reports of a vote recount in Sisaket's districts 6 and 7 are not true. He said the Election Commission will expedite an investigation into social media manipulation of the vote count results that have caused public misunderstanding.

On 10 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Kornchit Charoen-in, Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC), addressed the reports about a new vote count in Sisaket's districts 6 and 7. He said these reports are false because, upon checking with the Sisaket provincial EC, there have been no requests for a recount. Only the full EC can order a recount at this stage; even the provincial EC does not have that authority. Therefore, the social media reports are inaccurate. He acknowledged that there are multiple cases on social media where election results have been manipulated and posted to mislead the public. The EC is currently investigating these incidents and recognizes that the spread of false vote count results is a serious concern.

When asked about citizens in other provinces holding protests demanding vote recounts and how to prevent escalation, the EC's approach was explained by Kornchit. He said there are two channels for the EC to review concerns: first, submitting a formal petition to the EC with evidence if there are doubts about the vote count's accuracy; second, the EC can take up issues that come to its attention for consideration.

Regarding public perceptions of the EC's slow response to problems, Kornchit said there have been a total of 113 complaints, many involving vote count petitions. Concerning Chonburi, it was not a new issue—the Deputy Secretary-General of the EC went there late at night but was surrounded and unable to leave until morning. Reports indicated the situation was unresolved, so a meeting was held in the morning to continue addressing the matter.
