Police Order Tightened 3 Measures to Handle Post-2026 Election, Preparing Riot Control, Monitoring Risk Groups Stirring Unrest

The police have ordered strict enforcement of three measures to handle the aftermath of the 2026 election, revealing complaints in 17 constituencies across 15 provinces involving obstruction of observers, black bags covering CCTV cameras, and lack of transparency in vote counting. They are monitoring risk groups focusing on incitement to conflict, spreading fake news, and preparing riot control forces to suppress incidents.

At 12:30 PM on 10 February 2026, Police General Kittirat Phanphet, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, assigned Police General Samran Nualma, Deputy Commissioner-General and Director of the Security and Election Order Command Center, Royal Thai Police, to chair a meeting monitoring election security and order. Representatives from related units nationwide joined at the Royal Thai Police Operations Center and via remote video conferencing.

Currently, complaints have arisen in 17 constituencies across 15 provinces involving issues such as ballot counting sheets found in trash bins, obstruction of observers, use of black bags to cover CCTV cameras, lack of transparency in counting, delayed result reporting, unusually high spoiled ballots, ballot misalignments, and damaged ballots. Most complaints have been filed, addressed, and legal actions taken, while some cases are still being processed by the Election Commission.

Police General Samran stated that, due to the Commissioner-General’s concern over police performance following Election Commission guidelines, he has ordered all police units nationwide to operate under three main directions as follows.

1. Intelligence: Deploy intelligence teams to closely monitor reactions of groups in areas where mass mobilization might be used to create unrest. They will track and block fake news on social media that could cause misunderstandings or incite conflict. Coordination with provincial internal security will update the "watchlist" of risk groups and analyze daily situation trends, especially in competitive areas. There will be close information exchange with the Election Commission regarding developments, along with vigilance against cross-district mass movements or transportation of weapons and illegal items during the post-election transition.

2. Coordination with the Election Commission: Investigators will coordinate with provincial Election Commission offices to follow up on objection petitions. If additional evidence is requested from the police, they will provide it promptly. Security teams will protect witnesses immediately upon request. Strict surveillance will be maintained at locations storing ballot boxes and important documents at district offices or provincial Election Commission offices until the process concludes.

3. Riot Control Readiness: Riot control company commanders will inspect personnel and equipment readiness, deploy forces strategically, enforce tactical procedures, and organize rapid response teams to manage initial incidents in high-risk areas.

Additionally, Police General Samran urged incident commanders to continuously assess the situation level jointly with investigative units to appropriately adjust operations within strict legal frameworks.
