All parliamentary candidates from Chanthaburi province have jointly declared their position and expressed willingness to allow a recount of the 2026 election votes. Meanwhile, crowds continue to gather, reiterating their demand for accuracy and fairness in the process.
On 10 Feb 2026 GMT+7, reports indicated that outside the Chanthaburi Provincial Election Commission office, a network of grassroots groups demanded that the Chanthaburi Election Commission conduct a new vote count. The demonstrators have been continuously assembling since early morning, now exceeding 10 hours. Representatives have taken turns speaking to follow up on the vote counting results and call for a retrospective review. The crowd has pointed out statistical anomalies in some constituencies, noting that the number of valid ballots was less than the total votes received by elected candidates. This discrepancy underpins their request for clarity to ensure utmost accuracy.
Mr. Nitikorn Phanmukda, one of the crowd’s representatives, explained that the gathering aims to seek clarification from the responsible authorities. He emphasized that the focus is not on political victories or defeats but on ensuring the election process is conducted with integrity, fairness, and transparency, in line with the Election Commission’s mandate.
Currently, parliamentary candidates from all nine political parties have reached a consensus and are willing to support a new vote count to collectively demonstrate their stance and build public confidence. Beyond vote tallies, the crowd has also suggested improvements in ballot box management, proposing that ballot boxes be centrally stored to enhance security.
Last evening, ballot transport vehicles from Khao Khitchakut District arrived at the storage site for election equipment and ballot boxes. Representatives from the People’s Party parliamentary candidates and media personnel jointly observed and documented the transfer process. Joint inspections confirmed that transportation proceeded smoothly without irregularities, helping to reassure and ease concerns among the demonstrators to some extent. The crowd will continue to monitor developments and await the Chanthaburi Election Commission’s response tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the People’s Party publicly declared via their Chanthaburi Facebook page, stating, "Every vote reflects the pure will of the people." They stressed that technical errors should not be used as an excuse to distort results or sow doubt. The People’s Party in Chanthaburi supports thorough verification and calls on the Election Commission to promptly consider the complaints. If unexplained irregularities are found, a recount is the sole solution to restore the election’s dignity. We will closely follow the situation and will not allow the votes of Chanthaburi citizens to be disregarded. The truth must emerge, and democracy must be transparent."
Previously, two parliamentary candidates from the party, Mr. Warayut Thongsuk (Candidate for Constituency 1) and Ms. Prachyawan Chaisueb (Candidate for Constituency 2), submitted a letter to the provincial Election Commission regarding the unofficial aggregated vote results. They pointed out irregularities and inconsistencies in the vote counts for all candidates in Constituency 1. The total votes combined amounted to 100,860, while the number of "valid ballots" reported was only 95,966, resulting in a surplus of 4,894 votes over valid ballots.
In Constituency 2, the unofficial aggregated results showed a total of 91,807 votes for all candidates combined, but the number of "valid ballots" was listed as only 84,142. This discrepancy meant the total candidate votes exceeded the valid ballots by 7,665.
These inconsistencies have raised public doubts about the accuracy, correctness, and transparency of the vote tallying process. To ensure elections are honest and fair, and to alleviate public concern, the Chanthaburi Election Commission is urged to disclose detailed vote count reports for every polling station in Constituencies 1 and 2. This transparency would allow thorough verification of the vote origins.
