Government Warns Bangkok, Metropolitan Area, and Eastern Region of Rising PM 2.5 Levels on 11-12 Feb

The Deputy Government Spokesperson revealed that the Air Pollution Mitigation Communication Center has issued a warning for Bangkok, the metropolitan area, and the eastern region about rising PM 2.5 dust levels on 11-12 February due to the influence of easterly winds and cross-border haze from neighboring countries.

On 11 February 2026, Ms. Lalida Pertviwatana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the Air Pollution Mitigation Communication Center (APMC) of the Pollution Control Department has warned that fine particulate matter PM 2.5 levels are expected to increase in Bangkok, the metropolitan area, and the eastern region—especially in Sa Kaeo, Prachinburi, and Chachoengsao provinces—during 11-12 February 2026.

Ms. Lalida explained that the main cause is the easterly winds blowing from neighboring countries, placing Bangkok, the metropolitan area, and the eastern region downwind. Additionally, 4,462 heat spots have been detected in Cambodia, the highest number since the season began, with a significant upward trend. This contributes to the likelihood of increased dust pollution in these areas during this period.

The Pollution Control Department has requested cooperation from all agencies in the eastern region and related organizations to tighten supervision of pollution sources, particularly open burning, to mitigate impacts on domestic air quality.

Ms. Lalida added that the APMC advises the public to take care of their health by avoiding or refraining from outdoor activities. If necessary, people should wear face masks and protective gear when going outside and strictly follow the Ministry of Public Health's recommendations. The public can continuously monitor air quality updates via the Air4Thai website at Air4Thai.pcd.go.th or the Air4Thai application to help plan daily activities and health care during this period of concerning dust levels.
