A crowd held an event in front of the Election Commission demanding five key points. They requesteda nationwide vote recount, affirming no political backing. They urged the seven commissioners to resign to take responsibility, warning that if they remain silent, protests will escalate.
On 11 Feb 2024 GMT+7, the Thammasat and Demonstration Coalition, along with about 20 representatives from the public, held an event in front of Building B, Gate 1, Chaeng Watthana Government Complex. This gathering was organized to present five main demands to the Election Commission (EC).
1.They requesteda full, transparent nationwide vote recount allowing public scrutiny due to widespread irregularities and loss of confidence in the verification system.
2. Initiate disciplinary and criminal investigations against officials involved or suspected of negligence leading to election fraud.
3. Immediately disclose results by each polling station so the public can verify them.
4. If, after the nationwide recount, any districts show irregularities, such asmissing ballots or discrepancies exceeding three ballots per number of voters, the EC must declare that election null and void and hold a new election in that district.
5. After resolving issues 1–4, all seven EC commissioners must resign to take responsibility for the entire incident.
Leader Naphasin Trirayapiwat said they are willing to be a focal point for complaints about the EC and related bodies nationwide. He emphasized they represent only the public, who cannot accept election fraud. While defeat is acceptable, the lack of transparency is not. If the EC does nothing today, they will considerescalatingthe protests. Everything depends on how the EC chooses to take responsibility.
Regarding public suspicions that political parties are behind the protest, he affirmed this is untrue, as participants support different parties but are united in rejecting the vote counting's lack of transparency.
Pol. Lt. Col. Natthawat Sngiamsak, Deputy Secretary-General of the EC, who received the complaint, said all suspicious matters and complaints will be investigated according to legal procedures. Regardingthe reporting of vote counts by polling station, about 100,000 stations nationwide, including overseas and out-of-district areas, will be handled accordingly, with each station's count posted on the provincial EC website, all provinces' EC offices, and the central office for verification. They are expediting completion within 1–2 days.
During the petition, the crowd shouted, "No responsibility to the people, it’s our taxes. They must be responsible to the people. Recount! Recount!"
