Prime Minister Urges Careful Handling of Crowd Demanding Election Recount, Sees It as a Right Within the Law

Prime Minister Anutin instructed police and local administrative officers to oversee the crowds demanding a new election count, emphasizing that the process be carried out gently. He views it as a right but insists it must remain within the law.

On 11 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul spoke about the calls for a recount. He said he has instructed local administrative officials, provincial governors, district chiefs, and police to jointly monitor the situation and facilitate citizens who have doubts. Regarding the decision on whether to conduct a recount, he said he has not studied the regulations and rules and that it is up to the Election Commission and relevant agencies.

When asked about emerging groups protesting the counting in several areas and whether there was concern about escalation, Anutin said the police and local administrators promised to fully ensure order. He told officials they must understand the situation and that everything should proceed with gentleness and respect toward the people, as it is the right of citizens to protest within the legal framework.
