The Army explained that a soldier stepped on a landmine in Sisaket while performing a security mission in the area. The device is currently under investigation and is initially believed to be an old leftover explosive. One soldier lost his left leg, and two others suffered minor injuries.

On 11 Feb 2026, the Facebook page “Army News Update” posted: “Breaking News: In the 2nd Army Area, a Thai soldier stepped on a landmine and was seriously injured. (Further details will be provided later.) #ThailandLovesPeaceButIsNotAfraidToFight”.

Recently, Lieutenant Colonel Richcha Suksuwanont, Deputy Army Spokesperson, said the Army received a report from the 2nd Army Area at about 16:40 that personnel from Infantry Company 132 stepped on a landmine while carrying out a security mission in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province.

The injured personnel have been taken to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, local units are controlling the area under security measures and are investigating the type of explosive device. Further details will be announced later.

According to reports from the 2nd Army Area, personnel injured by the landmine include Private Pariwat Meemana of Infantry Company 132, who lost his left leg and suffered a large tear on his right leg, with severe injuries. Two others—Corporal Pramot Deepak and Private Chakrapong Phomuang—sustained minor injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate the explosive device is believed to be an old leftover from past combat situations remaining in the operational area. The unexpected blast caused the soldier to lose his left leg and sustain a large tear on his right leg, with serious injuries. Local personnel promptly provided first aid before urgently transporting him to the hospital.

Relevant agencies are thoroughly inspecting the surrounding area to prevent further incidents and to assess safety in the operational zone. Additional updates will be provided later.

The 2nd Army Area confirms it will continue its mission to protect sovereignty and the safety of people along the border with strength, caution, and prioritizing personnel safety. Updates will be reported immediately as they become available.
