Lawyer Aun Appeals to Ombudsman over Barcode and QR Code on Ballots, Demands Election Annulment

Lawyer Aun appeals to the Ombudsman regarding barcodes and QR codes on election ballots, insisting this election must be annulled and raising suspicions of collusion and corruption in the printing of documents.

At 11:20 a.m. on 13 Feb 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that Mr. Phattharapong Suphakorn, also known as "Lawyer Aun Buriram," held a press conference in front of the Election Commission office at Chaeng Watthana Government Complex, Building B. He revealed that he planned to submit a letter to the Ombudsman concerning the QR codes and barcodes appearing on ballots, which might identify the political faction and possibly the individual voters.

Such actions may violate Section 85 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand and Section 96 of the Organic Act on the Election of Members of the House of Representatives, resulting in the loss of ballot secrecy. The Constitutional Court has previously ruled that if voting is not secret, the election must be declared void.

The problem arises with the single-member district ballots, or green ballots, which contain QR codes, while the party-list ballots, or pink ballots, have barcodes. These codes can be scanned to identify both the political faction and the voter who cast the ballot.

This behavior suggests a design by the same group responsible for the Senate election ballots, which also contain QR codes. This indicates a process intended to benefit both the Senate and House elections, compromising ballot secrecy for the Senate election as well. Complaints have previously been filed alleging collusion and fraud in the Senate election.

He hopes the Ombudsman will consider forwarding the matter to the Constitutional Court within 15 days as required by law. If the Ombudsman fails to act within 15 days, he will personally submit the case to the Constitutional Court to ensure this election is annulled.

Lawyer Aun further stated that anonymous complainants have reported collusion in the bidding process for printing candidate introduction and referendum publicity documents. The printing contracts were allegedly awarded to colluding printing houses without an e-bidding process or fair competitive tendering. Additionally, documents were printed before the Election Commission's budget had been disbursed, suggesting possible corruption in the printing contracts.

He added that if this election is annulled, he will seriously pursue these allegations and take action against the local "four bosses" who control the election process: village health volunteers, village headmen, subdistrict chiefs, and subdistrict administrative organizations.
