Peoples Party Sends Wiroj to Urge Election Commission to Investigate Whether Election Ballot Barcodes Violate Secret Ballot Rights

The People's Party has sent Wiroj to pressure the Election Commission to verify whether the barcode issue on election ballots violates the constitutional secret ballot principle, expressing disappointment that no recount will be conducted in Chonburi Constituency 1.

On 13 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Kittichai Techakul, Director of Elections for the People's Party, held a press conference expressing concern over the discovery of QR Codes on single-district MP ballots and Barcodes on party-list MP ballots. The party suspects these codes could be traced back to individual voters, violating the constitutional intent that elections must remain secret.

Kittichai explained that verifying this is straightforward: the Election Commission can present actual ballots to prove whether these codes link to the stub signed by the voter before receiving the ballot. The party assigned Wiroj Lakhanadisorn, deputy party leader, to visit the Election Commission office and submit a letter demanding the facts be disclosed publicly as soon as possible. If the system compromises election integrity or transparency, the party will consider legal action. The party also questioned why referendum ballots lack such codes, increasing public suspicion.

Regarding Chonburi Constituency 1, where the Election Commission decided against a recount citing insufficient evidence, Kittichai stated the party is very disappointed with this ruling. He urged the Election Commission to promptly upload the S.S. 5/18 files (polling unit-level vote count reports) to the system, noting that currently only headings are on the website without the actual data files for public and party verification.

Concerning the Election Commission's order to hold re-elections on 22 Feb 2026 GMT+7 in certain polling stations in Khan Na Yao district, Bangkok, and District 7 of Pathum Thani province, Kittichai confirmed the party is not worried. Since only one polling station is affected in each area and the party is fully prepared, it will send volunteer election observers to monitor all re-election sites to ensure the voting process is conducted with utmost fairness and integrity.
