Rom Criticizes Election Barcodes: Calls for Imprisonment Sudarat Questions Who Ordered It

Rangsit Rom criticized the discovery of barcodes on election ballots, stating that someone must go to jail over this election. Meanwhile, Khun Ying Sudarat declared the Election Commission must be imprisoned and questioned who gave the order.

On 13 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Rangsit Rom, an incoming party-list MP from the People’s Party, posted on his personal Facebook about the finding of barcodes on election ballots. He noted this could undermine the secrecy required and possibly violate the 2017 Constitution, Section 85, which states that MP elections must be "by direct and secret ballot." The 2018 MP Election Act, Section 96, prohibits anyone from intentionally marking ballots for identification. He asserted, "Someone must go to jail over this election. This has gone too far."

Khun Ying Sudarat points out the Election Commission must be imprisoned and asks who gave the order.

Khun Ying Sudarat Keyuraphan, former leader of the Thai Sang Thai Party, also posted on Facebook saying that if this is true, the Election Commission must be imprisoned.

Regarding the Election Commission placing barcodes and QR codes on ballots, the commission appears to have seriously violated the Constitution, which carries prison penalties. Section 85 of the Constitution mandates MP elections be "by direct and secret ballot." Section 96 of the Election Act forbids anyone from intentionally marking ballots to be identifiable.

The law’s intention is clear: voting must be secret and the voter's privilege. No markings should be on ballots that allow tracking which candidate or party the voter supported. This is a major issue.

"The Election Commission must clearly prove to the public whether the barcodes and QR codes on the ballots are unique identifiers (Unique Running Number). If so, the Election Commission must be imprisoned. More importantly, who ordered them to do this?"
