
The Royal Gazette published a decree convening an extraordinary session of Parliament for the Senate to consider and approve appointments to the Election Commission, the Ombudsman, and the Audit Committee on 26 February.
On 13 February 2026, reporters reported that the Royal Gazette announced the 2026 extraordinary parliamentary session. His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has graciously issued a royal command decreeing the session, stating that the President of the Senate reported that although the House of Representatives is currently dissolved, it is necessary for the benefit of the state that the Senate convene to perform its constitutional duties under Section 126 (2) of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand. This includes considering and approving persons nominated for the positions of Election Commissioners under Section 222, the Ombudsman under Section 228, and the Audit Committee under Section 238 of the Constitution.
It is deemed appropriate to convene an extraordinary parliamentary session so the Senate can conduct meetings and fulfill these duties.
By the authority of Sections 122 and 126 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand, His Majesty has graciously issued a royal command to convene an extraordinary parliamentary session for the Senate to meet under Section 126 (2) of the Constitution to consider and approve individuals nominated for the positions of Election Commissioners under Section 222, the Ombudsman under Section 228, and the Audit Committee under Section 238, starting from 26 February 2026.
