Parit Watcharasinthu confirmed that the People’s Party will continue as the opposition leader and denied any talks with Capt. Thammanat following reports that Bhumjaithai Party plans to take over the Ministry of Agriculture. He noted that the public wants to see how coalition parties will promote their differing policies.
On 14 February 2026, Parit Watcharasinthu, spokesperson for the People’s Party, addressed whether the People’s Party would form a government if Bhumjaithai could not. He said that Bhumjaithai has already formed a government, evidenced by their alliance with Pheu Thai and smaller parties, collectively having more than 250 MPs. In principle, the People’s Party has consistently affirmed that the top-ranked party has the legitimate right to form the government. Since the People’s Party was not the top-ranked party, they respect that right and will serve as the opposition without joining the government. He reaffirmed that the People’s Party will act as the opposition leader.
Regarding rumors that Bhumjaithai plans to take back the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives from the Kla Party, Parit confirmed there have been no discussions with Capt. Thammanat Phromphao. He said it is the responsibility of coalition parties to negotiate among themselves. What the public wants to see is the policy agenda the coalition parties will jointly push. Since several parties have joined to form a government, the public expects clarity on how differing policies will be reconciled. Each party aims to fulfill the promises made during their campaigns, but as of yesterday, it remains unclear which agenda items the coalition will prioritize first.
