Anutin Explains Final Steps in Government Formation to Narumon, Emphasizes Need to Elect Parliamentary Speaker First

Anutin clarified and explained the government formation process to Narumon, stating that MPs must report first, then elect the parliamentary speaker and the prime minister before forming the government as the final step. He confirmed, as previously mentioned, that he has already spoken with Thammanat.

On 17 Feb 2026 at 16:45, at the 42nd Military Circle, Senanrong Camp, Kho Hong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, spoke about his discussion with Narumon Phinyosinwat, Minister of Education and leader of the Kla Party. He said the talk was to clarify the government formation process, emphasizing that there are many steps to complete and everything must be clear and orderly before proceeding. "We must not skip any steps. We now have a rough idea of how many MPs each party has, but we will wait until everything is finalized. We are not rushing, and no one is forcing us out of the government at this time. The process should proceed in order: first, the Election Commission must certify the MPs, then the parliament convenes for members to report, elect the parliamentary speaker, and then elect the prime minister. The government formation step is last." When asked if the discussion was to help Narumon understand, Anutin replied, "Yes."

When asked if the talk also involved the Kla Party and whether he had spoken with Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, chief advisor to the Kla Party leader, Anutin said, "As I have stated, to avoid any suspicion, I will not discuss this matter until the MPs are certified, members have reported to the parliament, the speaker has been elected, and the prime minister chosen. The government formation is the final step. Currently, the MPs have not yet been certified. We ask the Election Commission to complete the certification. Everything is proceeding on schedule, with no delays. The law requires the Election Commission to certify MPs within 60 days; only 9 days have passed so far."
