Lawyer Aun Questions Ombudsmans Focus on QR Code Issue, Ignores Ballot Paper Irregularities

Lawyer Aun questions why the Ombudsman only asked the Election Commission (EC) about the QR Code issue, omitting the irregular ballot papers. He plans to resubmit his complaint and asks whether the Ombudsman is being straightforward or signaling something else.

At 10:30 a.m. on 18 Feb 2026 GMT+7 at the Election Commission office, Mr. Phattharaphong Suphaksorn, known as Lawyer Aun from Buriram, held a press conference. He said there are many issues to discuss, but the most urgent is the death of Bak Siang (a character in a film), which reminded him of his elder brother, a senior official at the EC, because they come from the same hometown, named "Bak Waeng." He expressed deep concern for Bak Waeng, saying he cannot help but worry because if he dies, who will manage the next election? He believes this election will be 100% void. That is why he came here today.

Phattharaphong said that on 13 Feb, he submitted a complaint to the Ombudsman requesting the Constitutional Court to consider two issues: the QR Code and the irregular ballot papers. The Ombudsman replied on 16 Feb, informing him that they had sent a letter to the EC requesting investigation but asked only about the QR Code issue. This left him puzzled why only one issue was being pursued when he raised two. What is going on?

"Is the Ombudsman being straightforward? It is not proper or complete. My intention was to raise two issues, and my doubts are shared by scholars across sectors. Therefore, I will file additional complaints to the Ombudsman. If we weigh the issues, the irregular ballot papers are just as important as the QR Code. Why does the Ombudsman neglect or deliberately wink and signal, since you come from the same source?" Phattharaphong added.
