Thammanat Orders Preparations for New Election Amid Concerns Over Election Commissions Risk of Constitutional Violations

Lt. Col. Thammanat summoned the party’s strategy team for an urgent meeting, acknowledging concerns that the election results certification risks violating the constitution and might be nullified, leading to a nationwide crisis.

On 18 Feb 2026 at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, advisor to the Kla Party (Kotham), spoke about the intense political situation, especially the Election Commission's (EC) delay in certifying election results amid growing legal challenges. With a serious expression, he admitted that after consulting legal experts, he is more concerned about the certification process than government formation negotiations.

Lt. Col. Thammanat added that the current situation risks violating the constitution. If the EC cannot manage the process transparently and clearly, leading to the election being declared null and void, it would cause major chaos nationwide. He has therefore called Navy Lt. Anudit Nakornthap, the party’s strategy chief, to discuss plans for a possible new election, affirming that Kla Party is ready to face any scenario.

Regarding the EC's decision to order a recount in Phayao Province’s District 1, a stronghold of his, Lt. Col. Thammanat said there is no cause for concern and views it positively. He noted that internal discussions suggest that a fair recount in multiple districts could even increase Kla Party’s parliamentary seats. On 19 Feb, a meeting of all 58 prospective MPs is scheduled to emphasize adherence to election laws while results remain unofficial.

On the matter drawing attention—the visit of Kla Party leader Mrs. Narumon Phinyosinwat to meet Prime Minister and Bhumjaithai Party leader Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul in Songkhla Province on 17 Feb—Lt. Col. Thammanat revealed he had asked Mrs. Narumon about it. She confirmed the meeting was routine with no secret deals as some speculated. He concluded with a phrase to quell rumors: “There’s nothing in the bamboo clump, only bamboo shoots,” affirming stable relations within the coalition.
