Bangkok Election Commission Director Has Not Seen Ballots Yet, Affirms Readiness for Re-election and Referendum on 22 Feb

The Election Commission has scheduled another meeting next week, giving its office time to review polling stations with problems. Meanwhile, the Bangkok EC director has not yet seen the ballots but confirms readiness for the re-election and referendum on 22 February.

At 10:00 on 18 Feb 2026 GMT+7 at the Election Commission office, reporters reported that the EC did not hold a meeting today because it had already convened to urgently discuss ordering a recount at problematic polling stations and had reached a resolution. The EC chairman scheduled a new meeting next week but said if urgent matters arise, an emergency meeting would be called. Some polling stations have not yet been fully reviewed, and if the EC office completes the review in time, it will propose the findings for immediate EC consideration at the next meeting.

Meanwhile, Acting Sub-Lieutenant Samphan Saengkamlert, Director of the Bangkok Election Commission, revealed the readiness for the re-election of the constituency and party-list MP elections and the referendum re-vote at polling station and referendum station number 9, Constituency 15, Khan Na Yao Subdistrict, Bangkok, on 22 Feb from 08:00 to 17:00. He said that election materials and ballots for this station will be sent directly to the district office by Thailand Post. He is not yet aware whether the ballot format will remain the same and will only see the ballot design when it is delivered to polling stations on the morning of 22 Feb, a day he will personally inspect for readiness. Today, a meeting was held with responsible officials as required by EC regulations, including appointing a new set of polling station officials. However, for the referendum re-vote counting at polling station 10, referendum station 15, Khan Na Yao Subdistrict, Khan Na Yao District, Bangkok on Sunday 22 Feb 2026, the EC will use the previous polling officials since the count has not yet occurred. The EC resolved that the recount will begin at 10:00, and the ballot marking format will remain unchanged.

When reporters asked about the ballots and referendum ballots to be used in the re-voting, Acting Sub-Lieutenant Samphan said he has not yet seen the ballots. The procedures for re-voting and referendum vote counting will be the same as on 8 Feb, with equipment issued on 22 Feb.

Acting Sub-Lieutenant Samphan emphasized that the polling stations are ready and that he has instructed polling officials to perform their duties according to regulations and legal procedures, urging them to be more careful when filling out forms. He expressed no concerns, stating that everything is proceeding according to established rules and procedures.
