Army Chief of Staff Unfazed by Hun Manets Accusations Against Thailand PM Urges Increased Care for Three Southern Border Provinces

General Chaipruk, Army Chief of Staff, is unfazed by Hun Manet's accusations that Thailand has encroached on Cambodian territory, affirming that the military is fully vigilant. He revealed that Prime Minister Anutin has requested increased oversight of the three southern border provinces.

19 Feb 2026 GMT+7 General Chaipruk Duangpraphat, Army Chief of Staff (Army Chief of Staff). He gave an interview to the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) which stated the situation at the Thai-Cambodian border is stable, though constant vigilance is necessary in all areas. They are using all available tools and personnel to monitor the area. Currently, readiness has not been reduced, so no problems are expected.

Regarding Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia’s interview with foreign media accusing Thailand of encroaching on Cambodian territory and whether this might provoke tensions, General Chaipruk revealed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will respond through diplomatic channels as per procedure, so there is no need to worry. If they engage diplomatically, we will respond diplomatically. Meanwhile, the military is fully attentive.

When asked if there were any special orders from Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul during their meeting, General Chaipruk responded, the Prime Minister has asked ISOC to increase oversight of the three southern border provinces. General Pana Klaewplodtook, Army Commander and Deputy Director of ISOC, and I will increase visits to the area to manage the situation and work to reduce violent incidents.

When reporters asked if intelligence measures would be adjusted following the Prime Minister’s security meeting in Songkhla Province, General Chaipruk said that the last time the Army Commander assigned him to visit the area, it was to tighten intelligence operations and determine necessary adjustments. Other support operations for the military are also being revised. There will be heightened monitoring during Ramadan—before, during, and after—because incident statistics typically rise 20-30% annually before Ramadan, making vigilant surveillance essential.
